Orval is a trappiste beer that is brewed in the Abode of Notre-Dame d'Orval in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. The beer is an outcast in the Trappist beer. Young Orval, just from the brewery, has a hoppy and refreshing aroma and taste, besides fruity tests. At four to five months of age, it gets a huge foam collar. Fruitiness opens up room for a sourness. Almost all the rest sugar has disappeared. From six months on, it gets "wild" (Brettanomyces) characteristics and hints of lactic acid and lemon six.
