Trappist
Trappist beer is beer brewed by Trappists, or monks. It may only bear the name Trappist when the beer is brewed by monks of the order of Cistercians.
A Trappist can therefore be a blond, double or another type of beer. The name "Trappist" is derived from La Trappe, one of the founding abbeys of the Trappist order in France.
There are currently 10 real Trappist breweries worldwide. These are breweries that are allowed to carry the 'Authentic Trappist Product' label with their beers.
The highest number of Trappist breweries was reached in 2018, when Tynt Meadow received approval and started selling Trappist beer, there were twelve of these types of breweries,
but two Trappist beers have now disappeared, either because the label has decreased or because the brewery has stopped.
